Sympathy for Not Getting Into a School

Getting rejected from the college of your dreams is never an easy thing to go through. After having planned out the city you were going to live in, the major you were going to take up at the school, and possibly even having researched which clubs and organizations you were going to join, you may be crushed at the arrival of a small envelope with your dream school's name in the header-a rejection letter. If someone you know has experienced this recently, it might be a good idea to send him or her some words of sympathy. It will help boost their confidence as well as give them the courage to persevere despite such a rejection. Below is a sample letter for someone going through a rejection from a school:

Dear Terrance,

I am shocked to hear that New York University could not accept you at this time. I understand that this was your top school for your desired Political Science major and that you had many plans in mind for this arrangement.

Do not be too discouraged as I heard you have plenty of other options. I know that they were only meant to be safety schools, however you should try to look at them from a different perspective. Sometimes the schools we overlook are the ones that we end up enjoying the most.

If your heart is set on New York University, however, there is still an opportunity to apply as a transfer student after your second year. I did just that during my time in college. Upon having finished two years at Santa Monica College, I was accepted as a transfer student into UCLA, which I was not accepted into the first time I applied as a senior in high school.

Persistence is key. Many rejections may happen throughout one's lifetime, but they should only serve as motivation to work harder and prove to those schools that you truly are the best. I know you are very smart and involved and I do believe that you will take this opportunity to assess your options and make the right decisions. Good luck in all your future endeavors. If you someone to talk to about this, you know my number.

Love,

Uncle Tom
